Last night we were supposed to have a bass player come in to audition. I spoke with him yesterday morning and also traded email wherein I gave him my cell phone number along with Brian’s (the drummer – we rehearse at his house), plus the address. He responded with a list of songs he wanted to play with us. It looked like a go.
I got to Brian’s house shortly before eight; Greg the singer arrived right on time. And we waited. At 8:30 we began to wonder. If he had shown up by 8:45, it would have been all right. By nine I had opened a beer and written him off.
While it bothers me a little that he didn’t show up, what bothers me more is that he didn’t call, or leave a message or anything. That’s just rude. And a little cowardly. How about a little common courtesy? How about an email that says, “It was too far to drive for a weekly rehearsal. Thanks but no thanks. Or maybe, “The neighborhood is a little too scary for me. Or a simple, “I changed my mind. Sorry.
Instead we got nothing; a great big, cavernous, echoing nothing. I’m disappointed.

That is rude and I don’t accept the excuse “I forgot”!
“I forgot to pay my taxes…”
Lame. I had a guy recently do that for a job interview. How hard is it to call or e-mail and say, “no thanks?”
The best excuse I’ve heard though is a woman called to reschedule an interview with my boss because she needed more time to wrap her Christmas presents. She was shocked when HR didn’t reschedule her interview.
